Description

Hello, My name is Adam Katz, and I am the principal and co-founder of the School of Modern English (ME) in Guilin, China. I am also a graduate of the MA TESOL program at CSUS. My school, ME, is looking for 2-3 EFL teachers to begin in September, 2018. If you are interested, please read on. Or, if you know anyone who may be interested in teaching in China, please forward this message along. Thank you. The school: ME is an extracurricular language institute geared towards the K-6 age levels. We have 2 campuses in the city, and our classes take place weekdays after school (usually 7: 30-9: 30 PM), and run all day on the weekends. We also run the English language programs of 16 local kindergartens, and 1 elementary school. Those classes take place during normal school hours. The Position: Our teachers usually choose to work 16 to 20 class-hours per week, and make around 10, 000 RMB (1, 593 USD) per month. We pay our teachers by the class, with a starting wage of 110 RMB (17. 5 USD) per 40-minute period for classes held at either of our ME campuses, and 100 RMB (16 USD) per 30-minute period at our sister, kindergarten and elementary, schools. Class-loads and schedules are negotiable, and can be adjusted for teachers who want to work more or less hours (we have some teachers who only work 2 days a week, and others who work 7, consistently making more than 20, 000 (3, 186 USD) per month, but I wouldn't recommend taking on so many classes). We also provide 800 RMB (127 USD) per month for housing and offer a 150 RMB (24 USD) transportation stipend to teachers who work and travel to our participating kindergartens and elementary schools. We also offer assistance with finding housing, setting up utilities, Wii, driver's licenses, and cell phone services. The cost of living is very low in Guilin compared to most of China, and a rule of thumb is that if something costs 1 USD in the states, it will cost about 1. 5 RMB in Guilin (current exchange rate 1 USD = 6. 3 RMB). On average, most ex-pats in Guilin tend to live well off of 3, 000 RMB (478 USD) per month, while most locals spend less than 500 RMB (80 USD) per month on living expenses. We do not pay for international transportation to and from Guilin, nor for the various fees associated with the visa application process. We do cover all visa fees that occur once you arrive the city of Guilin. To all of our teachers, we offer multiple-entry, 1-year work visas that are renewable domestically for up to 5 years. We are happy to offer assistance with visa applications, and our experienced staff can guide you through the process every step of the way. Requirements: Current Chinese law requires EFL teachers to hold a BA in the fields of English or Education, or hold a TESOL or TEFL certificate from an accredited institution. If you hold a BA in another field (e. g., anthropology, biology, or history), then you must have 2 years of working experience related to education. Relevant diplomas, along with a certificate of 'no criminal record' must be notarized by the Chinese consulate before we can begin the visa application process. Chinese law also dictates that we are unable to hire anyone over the age of 65. While most teachers tend to stay at ME for at least 5 years, our minimum contract length is 1 year. And as our student population is primarily K-6, we are looking for teachers who are good with, and want to work with, children. The Location: The School of Modern English is located in downtown Guilin, in Guangxi Province. It is an amazingly beautiful, safe, and friendly city, nestled in a vast surrounding countryside. You can get a feel for the area in the 360-degree aerial panoramas provided in the link below. The first 3 were taken outside of Guilin and range from a 20-45 minute drive from the main ME campus. The 4th panorama is of downtown Guilin, approximately 2 blocks from our school. Panoramas: http: //www. airpano. ru/files/Guilin-National-Park-China/2-2 For a more information on Guilin, the following link to the Chinese Language Institute (CLI) provides a nice description of the city, along with testimonials from foreign students studying Chinese language in Guilin. https: //www. studycli. org/guilin/ If you are interested or have any questions, please contact me via email or US phone number below. You may also submit your resume to that email address if you are eager to move forward with the application process. Thank you for taking the time to read this job offer, and we at the School of Modern English look forward to hearing from you.
