'why_work_for_us' => 'The United Nations Maritime and Continental Silk Road Cities Alliance (UNMCSR) is a UN global project launched in 2015 by UNOSSC, UNIDO, UNESCO, UNDP, UNWTO and Ministry of Commerce of China.
UNMCSR aims at promoting economic, technological, cultural interaction and talent exchange among cites, regions and countries through the UN global network in support of the wider vision of enhancing cooperation among the 21st century “Silk Road Economic Belt†and the “Maritime Silk Roadâ€.
The concept of promoting international cooperation along the "Belt and Road" through the multilateral mechanism of the United Nations has not only received unanimous support within the UN system, but also the warm response from cities and regions along the "Belt and Road". 28 cities (provinces) from France, Italy, Iran, Mongolia and Turkey have already joined the Alliance in the past two years. The number of UNMSCR member states is estimated to reach 60 by 2020.
UNIDO Investment & Technology Promotion Office (UNIDO-ITPO) organized the World Entrepreneurs Investment Forum 2017 (WEIF 2017) in Bahrain (Manama) from October 31st to November 2nd, 2017. As the supporting Unit, UNMCSR has received warm participation at the event. During the forum, UNMCSR appointed Mr. Adnan Kassar - the president of the Arab Chamber of Commerce- who was previously awarded in 2016 by Chairman Xi Jinping the "China-Arab Outstanding Contribution Award"- as honorary chairman of the our UN organization. At WEIF 2017, more than 10 cities that were present in the Forum forwarded their cooperation proposal to join UNMCSR. In the organization’s visit to Lebanon after the successful conclusion of WEIF 2017, the top two largest cities of Lebanon, Beirut and Tripoli, held press conferences and announced their entrance as member cities of UNMCSR’s network.
The United Nations Maritime and Continental Silk Road Cities Alliance Smart City & New Industry Committee (UNMCSR-SNC) was launched in 2016 as Committee of UNMCSR, with focus on smart city and new industry development. Tough launched only one year ago, it has successfully held “2016 Vienna-Chongqing Cultural Festival†and started several national, high profile, and cross-border initiatives and projects, including “Silk Road Smart City and New Industry Think Tank†and the “Sino-Austrian Cultural Park†aiming at connecting cities for win-win cooperation.
