Description

About WFUNA The World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) is a global nonprofit organization working for a stronger and more effective United Nations. Established in 1946, we represent and coordinate a membership of nearly 100 United Nations Associations and their thousands of members. We work to build a better world by strengthening and improving the United Nations, through the engagement of people who share a global mindset and support international cooperation – global citizens. Our organization has offices at the United Nations in both New York and Geneva and hosts interns in both locations. www.wfuna.org Position Description WFUNA seeks an intern who will assist the work of the Director of Sustainable Development with administrative duties 40 hours a week for a duration of 6 months. In addition, the intern will have general WFUNA staff duties. The position is based in WFUNA’s New York office, and applicants must have a valid US Visa to be considered. Responsibilities include: ♣ Assist the Director of Sustainable Development in following all relevant UN processes and events related to the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ♣ Support WFUNA’s programs within the Sustainable Development portfolio, including programs in global citizenship education, gender equality, youth and sports, and civil society engagement in UN processes. ♣ Assist in the development of grant proposals and concept notes, including conducting research via the web and synthesizing information. ♣ Organize meetings, conference calls, and special events; take notes and draft summaries; and produce other project-related materials, including timelines and checklists. ♣ Assist with communications and outreach activities, including telephone calls, correspondence, website updates and social media. ♣ Attend relevant meetings related to WFUNA’s work on the 2030 Agenda, and liaise with relevant civil society representatives, UN personnel, UN Missions and UN Associations as needed. ♣ Participate in meetings of relevant civil society networks and working groups, including the NGO Major Groups, and report back on discussions, outcomes and action items. ♣ Support the Director of Sustainable Development in coordination of work, including liaising with other WFUNA staff and partners. ♣ Assist in administrative duties, such as answering phones, printing/copying, contributing to overall upkeep of the office, and data entry. ♣ Update and maintain contact databases and mailing lists. Opportunities ♣ This internship is unpaid, but applicants will be provided with a monthly MetroCard. ♣ The WFUNA Secretariat is located at UN Headquarters in New York. The intern will have access to the United Nations building, conferences and events, and resources such as the UN Library. ♣ This position provides hands-on professional development and experience in international relations and affairs, and the operations of a global non-profit organization. ♣ This position offers an excellent networking opportunity to make contact with UN staff, diplomats, and civil society representatives in the development community. Requirements ♣ Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or coursework toward a graduate-level degree preferred. ♣ Preference will be given to candidates who possess prior experience/knowledge of the SDGs, the United Nations system and multilateral actors and processes. ♣ Ability to self-start, prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment. ♣ Applicant must be disciplined about staying on task, conscientious about follow-through and timeliness, and willing to engage in outreach tasks such as cold calling. ♣ Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and technical skills. ♣ Highly organized and detail-oriented. ♣ Interest in international affairs, sustainable development or non-profit management. ♣ Fluency in English is required; knowledge of a foreign language is a plus. ♣ Experience with social media and website management is a plus.
